Channel Knob Selection

Another great tip by @Phil NR001
(Only applicable for devices with a indefinite rotating channel knob selector who run a PRO version of Button Mapper & Google Play Store)

This configuration enables you to use an indefinite channel knob to browse trough your numbered channels.
For me this is a great added feature because now I can safely browse channels when I’m driving in my car. Most of my frequently used channels are assigned to the program buttons, but now you have a more extended channel list at your finger tips.

Example on an Inrico TM-7 plus
  1. Add numbering to your channels/contacts: 01 Channel 01, 02 Channel 02, 03 Mom, …
  2. Add the rotate left & rotate right button in Button Mapper
    1. (“Add Buttons” or sometimes they are already added)
  3. For the Left Button: Select “Broadcast Intent” and add the following line to the field “Action“: com.zello.intent.channelDown
    • Do this for “Single”, “Double” and “Long Press”
  4. For the Right Button: Select “Broadcast Intent” and add the following line to the field “Action“: com.zello.intent.channelUp
    • Do this for “Single”, “Double” and “Long Press” and mind the capitals!

This should work with most indefinite rotating channel knob selectors. If you find a Network radio that doesn’t support this, let us know!
(We know about the Telo TE-390 already)

Multiple PTT apps on your Device

Some of use more than one PTT app on their Network radio.
Me, for example, I use Zello for hobby and when at work I use WalkieFleet to communicate with my team. I don’t like to carry around to many devices
(I do like to collect them though 😁 ).
Other hobbyists like to use peanut, echolink, …

Zello, in its greatness, has a few items that might need some improvement or modification, but I’ll leave that to the project managers and developers. I’ll just stick to solutions and work arounds.

When you install Zello it claims all usage over the PTT button. No matter what you do, when you push the PTT button it will push Zello as primary PTT application and it will pop up. (Unless you disabled background usage in the PPT menu in Zello, but that’s only when your screen is off.)

This is actually great when you only use Zello, but like me if you use other apps like WalkieFleet it’s quite annoying. There’s are two ways to work around this:

Telo TE-590

It took a while but finally my Telo TE-59O arrived today.

I’ve been waiting for this device since mid december, but the delivery was postponed due to reasons out of my or the dealers hand.

From my point of view this is the best quality in Network Radio you can buy for the moment: audio-, built- & display quality.
And I love the big display, huge advantage in operation various apps.
But again, that’s a very personal matter!

More info on the device here: Telo Systems
I got mine on Network-Radios.co.uk with great support and follow up!
(Keep in mind that there is a version with Google Apps and a version without! )

Sound Enhancement

In a random chat on one of our favorite channels, we were talking about PD0KHN, Martin’s newest addition to his Radio Park: an Inrico T320. We were discussing that adjusting the sound is not a subtile matter, it goes with button clicks and it’s lowest volume is sometimes just a little bit too loud. Same goes for the TM-7 (plus)… we all experienced the same issue. We got interrupted by Jeerke77 who told us that if you disable the Sound Enhancement in Android Sound Settings, the volume is far more softer and subtile in its lower volumes.

TM-7 (Plus) WiFi issues

Had some issues lately with my TM-7 plus who disconnected often from my wifi network. It happens on irregular basis and sometimes during conversations, what makes it very irritating obviously. I thought the problem was located in my mesh network, that the network was too advanced for the Android 4.4 versionof my TM-7 plus. We discussed it on the Zello Radio Benelux Channel and apparently it’s a know issue for the TM-7 (Plus). I got the suggestion to install “Best Wifi Keeper” That seems to resolve that issue.
